By Product Processing |

| Soap Stock Splitting |
The soap stock generated in the neutralizing plant is split using mineral acid, generally sulphuric acid to produce crude fatty acid. The reaction tanks are normally made in FRP to minimize the corrosion problem.
Generally the process in carried out in batches, where the soap stock is heated with open steam. Concentrated sulphuric acid is added to the reaction and the boiling is continued to complete the splitting. The mixture is then allowed to settle for phase separation. The acidic water layer is drained and the fatty matter is washed several times to remove the acidity. |
